• Wear an old button-down shirt that's easy off before rinsing colour in the shower
• Use an old towel, preferably white, as it will be easier to bleach if stains occur
• Put a little Vaseline around your hairline to keep colour off your skin
• Use a timer so colour timing is accurate
• Start timing once you have finished applying hair colour
• Use a damp, soapy cloth to wipe up spills
• Don't throw away your gloves - you'll need them to check colour or when you're working the colour through your hair
• For even results, put colour on the ends last as they tend to absorb more colour so may need less time than your roots
