The right shade for you
We'll help you find your best hair colour
Hair colour starts you on a fascinating journey to a beauty all your own. It sets the stage for your total personal look, from makeup to fashion. There are so many gorgeous hair colour shades! How do you choose the right shade for you?
First, don't look at the picture on the front of a hair colour package and think that's the colour you'll get. The picture only shows the colour you are adding to the colour already on your head.
Do turn the package over and check out the Shade Selector on the back. Locate your "starting colour." The chart shows you approximately what colour you will get if you use that hair colour.
Finding your starting colour
Compare the hair on your head to these colours. One of them is your "starting colour".
Hair colour depths and tones
Hair colours come in different depths: light blonde, medium blonde or dark blonde, for example. Watch for depth descriptors on the hair colour packages. They help you choose what you want.
Every hair colour (blonde, red, brown, or black) is available in warm tones (Warm shades), cool tones (Ash shades) or a balance (Neutral or Natural shades). The depth of a colour and its unique tones add a special dimension to your hair colour.
Skin tones and eye colour
When choosing a hair colour shade, keep in mind your natural skin tones. You'll look best with a colour that complements your complexion.
Cool: If you have skin that's olive, rosy brown, fair or rosy and eyes that are hazel, blue, blue-grey or green. Complementary cool hair colours will have the word "ash" or "neutral" in their package descriptors.
Warm: If you have skin that's fair to medium golden, golden brown or darker and eyes that are deep brown, hazel or brown. Complementary warm hair colours will have the word "warm" or "reddish" in their package descriptors.
