What causes grey hair

It's a natural process that's easily reversed!

There are many myths about what causes grey hair. But the simple truth is that hair naturally turns grey as you get older. Most people don't see grey until their late thirties, but a very few turn prematurely grey in their teens. It all depends on your genes.

As you age, your natural production of hair colour pigment, melanin, slows down and your natural colour loses its colour strength. This doesn't happen to every hair at the same time, so when some of your hair has no colour (white), and the rest still has colour, the contrast causes the look of grey. When your hair is about half white and half pigmented, it's called "salt and pepper" hair colour. Your hair looks more and more grey as it loses more and more of its pigment.
